Plant Identification Services
We provide plant identification services in three categories: (1) general public, (2) state and federal agency, and (3) commercial. For the general public and state and federal agencies, these services are free – instructions are bellow. For commercial services, identification services are provided at the rate of $31.85 per hour of work and the commercial entity is responsible for mailing costs both to and from the herbarium. Instructions for Obtaining Plant Identification:
Two options are available:
Print the “Herbarium ID Request”
Prepare the specimen for mailing (instructions included on the form). Ship the specimen and form to the Washington State University Herbarium (mailing instructions provided on the form). Download the Herbarium ID Request (PDF).
or
Create a quality pressed and dried herbarium specimen!
There are good directions online for making pressed specimens and you can see some examples:
